A CELEBRATION FOR A GREAT CHAMPION
WILKERSON HONORED AT BANQUET

A tribute for Tim Wilkerson and crew was held on Saturday, November 29, 2008 in Springfield, Illinois. The banquet was put together by the Wilky Warriors, a group of enthusiast supports of Wilkerson Racing.

Serving as the Masters of Ceremonies were Scott Gardner and Dan Driscoll (substituting for Tazz Hines who had the flu). Nearly 300 people attended the tribute as awards were presented to the Wilkerson Crew and Family.

Several special guests made it the podium, including Dick Levi from Levi, Ray & Shoup who have sponsored Wilkerson for several years. Dick talked about how the company enjoyed their association with Tim Wilkerson and see the future as very bright. Next up was drag racing journalist and announcer extraordinaire, Bret Kepner. He pointed out the absolute underdog position that Wilkerson came from and how stunning it was to see him rise to the top, ahead of multi-car high financed race teams. Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin then made a proclamation that November 29, 2008 was Tim Wilkerson Day. The formal part of the tribute concluded as Tim Wilkerson took to the podium and thanked his supporters, sponsors, crew and family as he held back tears.

“This tribute was well deserving of a great man, family and team” commented Scott Gardner. “Both Dan and I were highly honored to be included in this celebration.”

PHOTOS WANTED

Once again, the management of CFR is requesting that anyone who took any photos at the track this season allow us to have a copy for the banquet presentation this year. We have a few, from special events and from the weekly series’. We’re looking for racing and casual (pits/stands etc.) pictures. Digital pictures can be e-mailed directly to tazz@cordovadrag.com, or mailed on a disc to CFR at P.O. Box 442 Cordova, Il. 61242.

Please make all digital in the jpeg format at minimum 600x800 resolution. We will also take 35mm photos for scanning and will return them if you include a self-addressed envelope. We appreciate any help in this matter.

Eddyville Raceway Park to take reigns of 12th JR Dragster Halloween Nationals
BARS PRODUCTS & RENEGADE AS TITLE SPONSORS

A new addition to the 12th annual Bar’s Leak Rislone Products Junior Drag Racing Halloween Nationals presented by Renegade Trailers will be the new location and management of the event. Eddyville Raceway Park (Oskaloosa, IA) will be the new host facility for the event coming up on October 3, 4 and 5, 2008. “We are delighted with the new direction for the Halloween Nationals" commented Laurie Silvey of the GoFast Group, partner of the event series since its conception in 1996, "Eddyville Raceway is a terrific, picturesque facility. The 1/8 mile track with shutdown and return road features that are very junior friendly. Eddyville's many park-like pit facilities will make for a great host track for years to come."

The success of the 2007 Halloween Nationals event is credited in part to Scott and Laura Gardner or Cordova Dragway Park. Eddyville Raceway Park is part of the Gardner owned facilities and the chemistry of event success will continue at Eddyville. Laurie and Todd Silvey will take a promotional support status with the annual event creating the promotional work with their GoFastgroup.com agency.

“We enjoyed hosting the Halloween Nationals at Cordova Dragway Park in 2007” said Scott Gardner. “However, now is a good time to move the event to Eddyville Raceway as it’s more centrally located for many racers and the weather tends to be a bit better in the later part of the year.” He continued. The traditional All-Junior event known as the JuniorFest of Drag Racing is likely to return to Cordova in the Summer of 2009.

The entire management of the our facilities would like to formally thank Todd and Laurie Silvey for all the dedication and hard work they have poured into the Halloween Nationals and Junior Drag Racing in Particular” Gardner stated. “Gerald Kramer at Eddyville will roll out the red carpet for this event and will continue with the tradition of fun and excellence that Todd and Laurie have created.”
